Attention Photographers

Thank you for registering for the 5th annual Steveston Grand Prix of Art.  I am happy to report we have surpassed our goal of 100 artists and are expecting to have to cut off pre-registration later today.    We may allow a few more event-day registrations, weather permitting.  The show must go on regardless of the weather conditions though, and all painting location are sheltered or outfitted with a 10 x 10 tent.  Check today’s Richmond News for advanced copies of the event map/guide.  The maps will be readily available during the race at each painting station as well as at check-in.

The Photo Challenge:

Photographers are asked to capture the Spirit of the 5th Annual Grand Prix of Art in a digital photo journaling competition.

  • Photographers should arrive at Britannia Heritage Shipyards at 9:45 am.  Please present your printed tickets to the registration/check-in area when you arrive.
  • After you check-in please collect your event badges (includes your lunch voucher, raffle ticket, and event guide).  There will be a 20min. briefing session with one of the Judges and some useful tips about event photography. Photographers can explore the entire site from Britannia Heritage Shipyards to Garry Park, and continue to photograph the event, including the award ceremonies and exhibition, until concluding at 5pm.
    • Please be mindful NOT to disturb the artists while they are working (respect their time constraints and concentration).  Artists wanting prints or digital images of your work will be invited to contact you (the photographer) directly.  We are able to add links to your Flickr, Facebook, or other accounts where the public can shop for their preferred photos directly with the photographers.
    • Photographers will be asked to upload 5 unmarked jpeg press images to the event’s Drop Box by midnight September 20th.   We want to see the event through your eyes, not through the excessive use of photo editing tools. Please do not digitally enhance or alter your photographs beyond the basics needed to achieve realistic color balance and sharpness.”
    • The 5 photos for adjudication should be submitted in jpg format. Feel free to shoot in multiple formats if your camera will allow, but we will only accept jpg files with resolution no greater than 1800 pixels longest side.
      • We will email each registered photographer an invitation to the drop box account – please only use the folder with your name on it.
      • Adjudication will take place on the Sunday, with the 5 images of the winning Photo Essay published in Wednesday’s Richmond News.  Join us on Sunday September 28th at 3:00pm at the exhibition in the Seine Net Loft at Britannia Heritage Shipyards for the award ceremony’s Beau Photo Award for best overall photo, Beau Photo Award for best photo essay, and the Coast Capital Savings Peoples Choice Award.
      • Lunch will be served between 1:30 and 3:30 during the event, but we ask that you check out our event web site and event guide for full details of the day’s timetable.

Images and copyright remain the property of the photographer; however the organizers of the event retain the right to use the images online and for marketing purposes including publishing the winning photographs in the local papers, a photographic projection during the course of the exhibition, and on the official Grand Prix of Art Web site. Images showcased on the website will have a Grand Prix of Art logo, be resized for the web, and right-click protected. All other uses must have the photographer’s express permission. In uploading your photographs to Drop Box you are giving your consent to use these photographs in this way.
