Our International tours have become a huge component of our identity here at Phoenix Art Workshop, both here in Canada and the many international locations we have visited over the last 12 years.

The Travelling Brush trips are perfect for all experience levels, from professional to novice or complete beginner – photographers and non-artist companions also enjoy the pace of our tours, and may discover they have an unexpected artistic talent.

Challenging ourselves to observe, absorb and record these experiences while we take the slow travel road, rather than rushing from location to location to check our bucket list, is without doubt, the most rewarding way to discover the world. The Phoenix Art Workshop is a privately-run visual arts centre with art classes for young people and adults, emphasizing visual literacy, design and individual creativity.

A community-based resource for art supplies, custom framing, and education, Phoenix Art Workshop has always encouraged artists to work creatively from life and plein air by hosting our international tours and organizing events like our 24 Hour Life Drawing Marathons, Culture Days, The 100 Day Challenge, Chalk the Boardwalk and our Grand Prix of Art.

In 2005, Phoenix Art Workshop organized and led their first international artists excursion to Cuba under the name The Travelling Brush. They have now hosted trips to Italy, Colombia, Turkey, Bali, Spain, Guatemala, China, Peru and Greece, focused around “slow travel.”

The City of Richmond and Britannia Shipyards National Heritage Site has been a proud supporter of the Grand Prix of Art since it's inception in 2010 helping foster a stronger creative community.

Rotary members believe that we share a responsibility to take action to improve our communities. JRotary’s mandate of Service Above Self encompasses both local and global projects and The Rotary Club of Richmond Sunrise is proud to support this year’s Grand Prix of Art. Look for our two tents, one at the Artisan Market sponsoring a 13-year-old artisan and the other at the Artist Picnic area next to the Performers Stage, where awards will be presented. Our volunteers will be visible all over the event sites and our financial donations will directly support various Artist Awards across categories such as Masters, Adult Open, and Youth, including 1st, 2nd, 3rd places, and honorable mentions.
