Awards of Excellence “Paint in Place 2020”

Due to the world health crisis we were not able to host our usual event this year, which would have been celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Grand Prix of Art. We were working hard to make this year particularly special by introducing the first ever Plein Air Symposium in Steveston, British Columbia, Canada. We had lined up panel discussions, demonstrations and special workshops by internationally renowned artist and instructors: Eudes Corrie, Mike Svob, Deborah Tilby and Jesse Winchester-Schmidt.. We would like to thank those instructors for agreeing to be part of this week long celebration of the Grand Prix of Art and extend our sincere apology that this years event was not able to carry on as planned. We are hoping to have these talented Instructors back next year

To continue our legacy of supporting and celebrating Plein Air Painters, this year we hosted “Paint in Place” and asked artists from around the world to take up the 3 hour painting challenge and paint from wherever they are in the world and post their works of art to social media, using the hashtag #grandprixofart2020.

Thank you to everyone who participated! We had entries from all over the world on a variety of social media platforms and we wanted to take the time to thank everyone who contributed to this event, bringing plein-air artists together on August 29th for 3 hours of creativity. Although we were not able to create an artist profile for all the artists who participated, we do want to give a shout out to everyone who used the hashtag #grandprixofart2020 to share their work.

This year we are not awarding 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes, opting to recognise the top submissions with Awards of Excellence. Awards of Excellence will be presented in the Masters and the Adult Open Category as well as special recognition to all the Youth Category artists who registered through our web site and painted on August 29, 2020.

The Masters Category: Awards of Excellent include a $100 gift certificate to Phoenix Art Workshop, a set of Phoenix’s Nimbus Watercolour Brushes (good for all mediums) and a commemorative, Grand Prix of Art, Paint in Place 2020 T-Shirt.
