Grand Prix of Art 2024

Phoenix Art Workshop and the City of Richmond are inviting select artists to participate in the 14th annual Grand Prix of Art Artisan Marketplace on Saturday, July 27, 2023.

We would like to extend an opportunity to market-ready artisans, working in creative mediums, who wish to participate in our second Artisan Marketplace for this event. There is no cost to participate for selected artisans, however artisans must provide their own 10’ x 10′ tent, display tables, and are encourage to have some demonstrative or interactive feature at their booth to engage visitors and build awareness of the artistic process. Artisans should be prepared to self-manage, and promote the sale of their work independent from the event. No commissions are taken on sales. A dedicated loading area close to your both will be available for set-up from 10am – 11am and after 4:30pm for tear down. Artisans should be set up by 12:00pm, with the anticipated peak time for visitors between 1pm and 3 pm. A dedicated page for each artisan will be posted to our event website www.grandprixofart.ca/artists. With a limited amount of space, we are seeking creative and motivated individuals whose craft will enhance the overall experience of event attendees. ( see application below)

About the event:

Over 100 competing artists are randomly allocated one of 40 painting locations along the historic Steveston waterfront, from Garry Point Park to London Landing, and have 3 hours to complete a painting en plein-air. Artists return their work to Britannia Heritage Shipyards for display and adjudication and enjoy an artists picnic, live music and entertainment, an interactive artisan market, and food trucks for all art-loving enthusiasts and spectators.

Our host location Britannia Shipyards National Historic Site is situated in the heart of the Japanese Fishing Village of Steveston at the mouth of the Fraser River, nestled between 100-year old Cannery Buildings and Boat Works in a location that at one time held the largest fleet of gill-net fishing boats in North America.

I just now heard about the Grandprixofart!
It truly sounds so unique. I live and create my work at our home here in Chilliwack.
I grow, press and design with my pressed flowers and leaves. Properly pressing each piece of the plant can take months, depending on the plant and its thickness.
I create framed pieces as well as Votives and large Pillar candles incorporating my pressed designs into them.
Pressed flower design is a very old art form thats seldom seen anymore. These pieces can brighten any home and be admired by all. I take great pride in my work and would love the right opportunity to bring this art form back from the past. Id love to demonstrate how its done.
    Thank you

      HI Kathy
We don’t have the format in the art race but we do have an artisan Market an are still accepting applications. The artisan market encourages a variety of forms of interaction with the public, demonstration and of course sales of your work. We do not charge a commission and do not charge for booth space.
